Background

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN’s global anti-poverty network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in 177 countries and territories, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges.

In Moldova, UNDP’s programme is guided by the Country Programme Document, and the UN-Moldova Partnership Framework "Towards Unity in Action" for 2013-2017 and its action plan, which are in line with the priorities of the Government of Moldova. UNDP’s country programme for 2013–2017 has three major focus areas:

Communicating results is of utmost importance to achieve the goals of UNDP’s programmes in Moldova.  The Communications Unit is seeking a Master student with an interest in development issues to assist in increasing the communications impact of UNDP’s work in Moldova.

Scope of work

This post will provide the opportunity to assist in developing and carrying out campaigns under the communications strategy and action plans, web publishing and social media, organizing media-related events that raise awareness and engage people in our work. This internship includes networking with UNDP’s projects and beneficiaries as well as counterparts and UN Agencies. 

 

Organizational setting:

 

The intern will work under the supervision of and will report to the Communications Specialist, UNDP Moldova.

Main responsibilities:

  • Keep up to date the social media tools (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube), as well as look into the opportunity to expand presence on other social networks.
  • Identify and develop content for various campaigns on social media and website;
  • Develop stories about the results of UNDP’s projects in Moldova for the website;
  • Translate and edit communications-related materials;
  • Support in organization of various events such as UN Day, Human Rights Gala of Awards, key launches and campaigns;
  • Media monitoring of major campaigns and events;
  • Develop and keep up to date a media contact list.

 

Competencies:

  • An understanding of communications strategies, online and social media trends, techniques and information architecture.
  • Skills to build and maintain relationships with media.
  • Adherence to the core values of the United Nations, including respectful of differences of culture, gender, religion, ethnicity, nationality, language, age, HIV status, disability, sexual orientation, or other status.

Requirements for experience

Requirements:

 Education:

  • Completion of at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution, preferably in development or communications-related field, such as journalism, interactive telecommunications, international relations, political science, sociology, public or business administration, or other relevant disciplines.
  • Current enrollment in a Master degree programme.

Experience:

  • Experience writing or participating in blogs, community sites and social media, editing images or preparing graphics for the web and social media, developing and implementing online campaigns is a strong asset.

Language:

  • Fluency (written and spoken) in English is required.
  • Proficiency in Romanian and Russian is an asset.

  • copy of the CV;
  • letter from his University confirming current enrolment and graduation date;
  • a copy of his/her school transcript;
  • a letter of endorsement from a senior faculty member who has directly supervised the student in the recent past and who is fully acquainted with the student's performance;
  • a motivation letter setting out the reasons why he/she is seeking an internship with UNDP and what is expected from the experience.

Before starting the Internship, interns should submit:

  • signed UNDP “Internship Agreement” form;
  • confirmed and signed copy of “Medical Certificate of good health” from a recognized physician;
  • proof of medical insurance valid for the Republic of Moldova;
  • proof of life/accident insurance valid for the Republic of Moldova.
