Democratic GovernanceMore countries than ever before are working to build democratic governance. Their challenge is to develop institutions and processes that are more responsive to the needs of ordinary citizens, including the poor. UNDP brings people together within nations and around the world, building partnerships and sharing ways to promote participation, accountability and effectiveness at all levels. We help countries strengthen their electoral and legislative systems, improve access to justice and public administration, and develop a greater capacity to deliver basic services to those most in need. Democratic governance is essential to the long-term development of Moldova and will provide the enabling environment for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. Strengthening governance requires investments in institutions, processes and a cadre of civil servants responsive to the needs the vulnerable and marginalized as well as ordinary citizens. Building skills to support national efforts to reduce poverty, sustain the environment, protect and promote human rights and advance human development is essential. UNDP brings people together by building partnerships and sharing ways to promote participation, accountability and effectiveness at all levels. By supporting Moldova’s efforts to build its legislative system, promote and protect human rights, improve access to justice and public administration, and develop a greater capacity to deliver basic services to those most in need, UNDP helps create a more transparent, efficient and equitable governance system where citizens can take part in the decision-making process of their country.
