Background

The “Improving Trade and Productive Capacities of Moldovan Fresh Fruit Producers” project is part of the regional initiative Aid for Trade covering Central Asia, South Caucasus and Western CIS. The regional project supports inclusive economic growth through the promotion of trade and the enhancement of countries’ competitiveness on international markets. 

In Moldova the project helps agricultural producers and exporters to improve their international competitiveness and market access externally, both in the CIS and in the EU markets. Particular attention is, also, paid to strengthening capacities of existing associations of fresh fruit producers as well as members and non-members of the associations.

To achieve its goals one major objective of the project is to facilitate active participation of Moldovan fresh fruits producers/exporters in fairs and trade exhibitions abroad. UNDP “Improving Trade and Productive Capacities of Moldovan Fresh Fruit Producers” and USAID Agricultural Competitiveness and Enterprise Development (ACED) projects are cooperating to organize a country stand at World Food Moscow Trade Show (September 17-20), with view to support the development of increased export sales of Moldovan high value agriculture products. 

In accordance with latest marketing studies in CIS states (please see http://www.aced.md/en/publication/index.php) Moldovan agriculture fresh produce are placed on lower to middle segments of the market with “low to average” quality of products. A major goal of Moldovan agriculture produce country stand at the upcoming exhibition, prepared in close collaboration of UNDP and USAID projects is to make a new image of Moldovan agriculture produce and demonstrate capability of Moldovan producers to supply throughout the year very qualitative agriculture produce, with attractive packaging, cosmetic appeal and size consistency. 

“Effective fair participation” training is an important step towards preparation and successful participation of Moldovan agriculture producers associations’ representatives at the exhibition. 

Scope of work

The national consultant will have to develop the training materials and conduct training on “Effective fair participation” for a group of up to 13 persons of Moldovan agriculture producers associations’ representatives. 

The overall goal of the training is to strengthen practical skills of Moldovan agriculture producers associations’ representatives to effectively participate at the exhibitions and trade fairs, including all stages of preparation for the event, actions/ behaviour during the exhibition itself and post-event activities. A specific emphasis of the training shall constitute effective communication with potential clients.

Requirements for experience

 1. Academic Qualifications:

  • University degree in communications, economics, pedagogy, psychology or other science related to topic of assignment; Master degree in the respective areas will constitute an advantage;
  • Other formal education relevant for the assignment.

 2. Years of experience:

  • At least 4 years of professional experience in areas related to training, technical assistance in the fields specified above, and/or organization of exhibitions/ trade fairs, inside or outside the country.

 3. Competencies:

  • Proven expertise of the provider in developing and delivering similar training programs or technical assistance;
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills;
  • Strong analytical, writing and communication skills;
  • Ability to interact with trainees. Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality, and age sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Romanian or Russian;
  • Ability to meet deadlines;
  • Good interpersonal skills, solid judgment/decision making, initiative and creativity;
  • Experience of collaboration with Moldovan agriculture producers and/or their associations, knowledge of agriculture sector of Moldova would constitute an advantage.

 4. Language and other skills:

  • Fluency in written and oral Romanian or Russian.

Computer literacy and ability to effectively use office technology equipment, IT tools, presentation/ training equipment.

Documents to be included

Interested individual consultants must submit the following documents/information to demonstrate their qualifications:

 1. Proposal:

(i)  Explaining why they are the most suitable for the work;

(ii)  Provide a brief methodology on how they will approach and conduct the work; 

2. Financial proposal; 

3. Personal CV or Duly filled Personal History Form (PHF11) including past experience in similar projects and at least 3 references.

Financial proposal

The financial proposal shall specify a total lump sum amount, and payment terms around specific and measurable (qualitative and quantitative) deliverables (i.e. whether payments fall in installments or upon completion of the entire contract). Payments are based upon output, i.e. upon delivery of the services specified in the TOR. In order to assist the requesting unit in the comparison of financial proposals, the financial proposal will include a breakdown of this lump sum amount (including travel, per diems, and number of anticipated working days).
