The purpose of the project is to assist Moldova reduce consumption of ODSs (Ozone Depleting Substances), stipulated in Annex A Gr. I of the Montreal Protocol by 50% by 2005 and by 85% by 2007 by 85% from its baseline of 73,0 ODP (Ozone Depleting) Tones.

Objectives: |
- Provide incentive funding to assist industrial and commercial ODS end-users (enterprises) using CFC (R-12 & R-502) based refrigeration in their production processes or cold storage facilities to convert or retrofit these to employ non-ODP or low-ODP refrigerants, such as HFC-134a or HCFC-22;
- Supply 4 MAC Recovery and Recycling machines and service tools for MAC;
- Training in the retrofit of MAC units to HFC -134a;
- Organize a workshop to introduce and explain the end-user Incentive Programme to refrigeration end-users, service enterprises and other concerned parties;
- Train MAC service technicians on RMP, retrofit procedures and the recovery and recycling of refrigerants;
- Provide 4 MAC R&R machines and 6 sets of MAC service equipment and tools to MAC service enterprises.

Benefits expected: |
- Reduce the CFC refrigerants by 7.182 tones per year;
- Technical and financial assistance to end-users in phasing out ODS;
- Improve service practices in refrigeration;
- Improve maintenance practices and upgrade the equipment of technicians responsible for repair and servicing of R&A/C equipment and installations or MAC units.

Public awareness: |
Public awareness campaign on retrofit and conversion of refrigeration installations and MAC retrofit to HFC -134a;
TV, radio and newspaper announcement for owners of industrial and commercial refrigeration equipment and owners of vehicles with air-conditioning working with R12.

The total project budget is US $ 173,495.00 provided by the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol.

Noteworthy: |
The RMP update should ensure that Moldova complies with its obligations under the Montreal Protocol to phase out consumption of ODS, such as CFC refrigerants by 2010. |
