The project aims at supporting the development of National Human Development Reports (NHDRs) and other relevant policy analysis/research works. The project serves as a vehicle through which the Government of Moldova and UNDP identify, study and prioritize Moldova’s socio-economic and human development needs. Moreover, it contributes to better defining the target areas for development policies and improving communication of the country’s developmental needs to the donor community, civil society and the media.

Objectives: |
- Identify, study and prioritize Moldova’s socio-economic and human development needs;
- Develop follow-up development interventions for addressing the identified needs;
- Advocate for the inclusion of the identified priority areas in political discourse and public policy agenda.

Benefits expected: |
The project will make a contribution in assisting the country to attain its Millennium Development Goals by providing the basis for sound policy advice and effective programme implementation. The concept of the project is an outgrowth of the highly successful global HDRs, which identify global development issues and strategies. At the national level, these policy analysis efforts will be used by UNDP in its important role of providing leadership and coordination that facilitates nation-wide dialogue on ways and means to accelerate poverty alleviation in Moldova.

The design of each project effort factors in the need for a subsequent nation-wide launch of policy analysis/research products, broad dissemination of the reports’ key findings and recommendations, follow-up advocacy and discussions with major stakeholder groups.

Noteworthy: |
Currently the project focuses on the development of the following policy analysis and research works:
- Moldova Country Study on Social Exclusion, which is being undertaken within the 2010 Regional Human Development Report;
- National MDG/ECOSOC Report and National Voluntary Presentation for the ECOSOC Annual Ministerial Review;
- Policy Paper on Education and Human Development: Actual and Future Challenges;
- 2010 Aid for Trade Need Assessment for the Republic of Moldova;
- 2010-2011 NHDR.
