Entrepreneurs from both banks of the Nistru River will benefit from assistance in their business development

Chisinau, 17 September 2012 --Over 60 economic agents and more than 30 companies from both banks of the Nistru River will get assistance in developing their business within two projects launched by the Moldova Chamber of Commerce and Industry, supported by the program “Support to Confidence Building Measures” (SCBM).  

According to Natalia Djandjgava, project officer within SCBM Project, the main goal of the projects is to increase the economic competitiveness of small and medium sized enterprises, fully use their export potential, build confidence and enhance cooperation between the business communities on both banks of the Nistru River. Thus, within the first project – “Business support and development services” – over 60 entrepreneurs will have the possibility to take part in study tours in Poland, Germany and Austria, promote their goods on the European market and find business partners. Businessmen from both banks of the Nistru River will participate in economic forums, international exhibitions, round tables and will visit specialized enterprises from abroad. They will also benefit from business consulting, including the expert advice for their company internationalization.

Eugen Berdnicov, member of the Moldova Chamber of Commerce and Industry Council and deputy director of Ribnita Cement Plant, mentioned within the launching event that the project is much welcomed because business people from the region need support and promotion. “The training and exchange of experience will help us take over thegood practices from abroad, implement international quality standards and streamline our business. Thus we will be seen on an equal footing by our potential external partners and we will find more easily new sale markets”, said Berdnicov.

Within the second project – “Business consulting services” –employees from more than 30 companies will benefit from training on foreign trade, customs and tax legislation etc. According to Galina Popic, chief executive of the enterprise “Intereconomiservice”, in order to penetrate the external market, the economic agents need to know its legislation, rules and requirements. “The respective assistance will have a positive impact on the business environment and on the economy in general” assumed Galina Popic.

The economic projects supported by SCBM will run until May 2013, and the first business visit will take place in Poland, during October 13-18 the current year.

The overall objective of the SCBM is to contribute to confidence building on both banks of the Nistru River by involving local authorities, civil society, business community and other parties interested in local communities’ economic and social development. The 3 year Program “Support to Confidence Building Measures” is financed by the European Union and co-financed and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
