UNDP supports Central Electoral Commission to implement BRIDGE
28 - 29 July 2011, Chisinau-- Enthusiastic participation was the hallmark of a two day internal development workshop held by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) for its members and staff, with support from UNDP. This workshop used the Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections (BRIDGE) ) curriculum, which is an internationally developed and implemented system of electoral administration learning and training. The CEC has been using BRIDGE since 2009, when UNDP supported the initial assessment and development phase of the programme. There are now 7 citizens of the Republic of Moldova who are fully accredited to facilitate BRIDGE workshops. Three of them – Doina Bordeianu, Pavel Cabacenco and CEC Chairman Iurie Ciocan – supported their colleagues through this two day workshop and discussed a range of topics and concepts related to electoral administration. The workshop was also an opportunity for team building amongst the members and their staff. UNDP is a global implementing partner in the BRIDGE Project, and supports the implementation of BRIDGE through the Electoral Support to Moldova project. This is the fourth BRIDGE activity in Moldova since 2009 and the project is committed to assisting the CEC to hold more workshops on key electoral issues in the coming years. This multi-year institutional development programme supports the Central Electoral Commission to achieve its goal of a modernised electoral system of high integrity.
