EU High Level Policy Advice Mission project contributes to the reform roadmap of the Bureau for Migration and Asylum

Chisinau, May 10-13, 2011 -The Bureau for Migration and Asylum with the support of the EU High Level Policy Advice Mission (EUHLPAM), a project funded by the European Commission and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme, organized a workshop focused on the Migration and Asylum Bureau reform: the institutional framework, mandate and coordination mechanism. The goal of the event was to provide assistance and support in developing a roadmap for the reform of the Bureau for Migration and Asylum. Participants identified key issues and solutions to be undertaken to strengthen the management of migration and asylum system in Moldova.

The workshop was attended by Representatives of the Bureau of Migration and Asylum, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Border Service, IOM, UNHCR, UNDP, civil society representatives, national experts on migration and asylum and experts from Latvia.

This was the second workshop aiming to assist the ongoing reform process of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The working group developed a set of proposals and solutions to accelerate the necessary reforms in the context of national legislative harmonization with the international and European standards, in accordance with the objectives and actions outlined in the Moldova-EU Visa Liberalization Action Plan.
