EUBAM-Frontex plan operations for novel pilot project

15 June 2011 - The close cooperation EUBAM enjoys with EU partner agencies intensified further this week when the Mission hosted and participated in a planning meeting for a novel pilot project of Frontex, the EU agency that coordinates operational cooperation between EU Member States in the field of border security.

Frontex’s Coordination Points project will enhance information exchange between border-guard authorities in Ukraine and Moldova and EU Member States in areas such as identification of false documents and stolen vehicles, in collaboration with EUBAM.

This marks the first time that Frontex will have delivered such assistance to border professionals beyond the external borders of the European Union.

The purpose of the meeting at EUBAM headquarters on 15 June was to agree an operational plan and timeframe for each phase of the project, which will be implemented at the Starokozache (Ukraine) and Palanca (Moldova) border crossing points in the near future.
