UNDP supports Republic of Moldova reform of the Agricultural Education and Research System in line with the EU Best Practices

27-29 July 2011 - Transitional Capacity Support for the Public Administration of Moldova project (TCS) aims to support the Government in enhancing capacities of the Moldovan Central Public Administration in order to accelerate the reform process and achieve Moldova’s short- and medium term development goals. The Workshop organized by the project in collaboration with the EU HLA to the Ministry of Agriculture Waldemar Sochaczewski on the Reform of the Agricultural Education and Research System in line with the EU Best Practices for the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) on 27 - 29 July, 2011 was the first training activity in the framework of the project.

15 participants of the Workshop represented managerial and operational staff of the Ministry and its subordinated institutions. Three experts that work in the field of science and research at the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development equipped the participants with the up-to-date knowledge required for the elaboration and implementation of education and research policies in the field of agriculture in line with the generally recognized EU best practice.

As a result of the Workshop, the participants formulated the recommendation aimed at the optimization of the existing in Moldova agrarian education and research institutional framework by merging the existing institutions (Education and Research Institutes, Agrarian University, Colleges and Lyceums, and the Coordination Centre for agrarian extension services) into the Academy of Agrarian Sciences (AAS). The scope and responsibilities of this new institution should respond to the national programs and policies in agriculture sector and to the current market needs in order to be efficient and effective.
