Republic of Moldova signed with the European Union the Common Aviation Area Agreement

31 October 2011 - Republic of Moldova signed with the European Union the Common Aviation Area Agreement, to which UNDP provided support and contributed through its experts in the negotiation process. The document, signed by the Secretary General of the Government, Victor Bodiu, chief negotiator of Moldova, and Klaus Gail, chief negotiator of the EU, represents an important step of Moldova's integration in the EU transportation market. This involves advantageous tariffs for Moldovan citizens on air travel, modernization of the air fleet, additional opportunities for launching direct roundtrip flights from any EU member-state to Moldova,  as well as the removal of the current restrictions on the flights frequency. The signature and the implementation of the document will make a vital contribution to the provisions’ fulfillment of the future Moldova-EU Association Agreement, a process supported by UNDP through its various projects. These include “Building Institutional Capacity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova” and the “Transitional Capacity Support for the Public Administration of Moldova” projects, among many others.
