EUROPEAN UNION CONTRIBUTES TO THE IMPROVEMENT OF POPULATIONS’ ACCESS TO HIGH-QUALITY MEDICAL ASSISTANCE IN CIOBRUCI VILLAGE

Chişinău, 21 May 2010 – Regina Pacis Foundation shall provide medical equipment and furniture for renovating the medical policlinic from Ciobruci village, Slobozia district, Transnistrian region. These activities are accomplished within the project „Never Alone”, with the assistants of „Support to Confidence Building Measures”, financed by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme.

Following an ample analysis of the existent situation, as well as the SWOT analysis regarding the social assistance provided to inhabitants from Transnistrian region, performed by Regina Pacis Foundation collaborators, the main problems were identified, namely weak points, which the local inhabitants and territorial public authority encounter.

„Referring to the situation from Ciobruci village, we concluded that the village owns a medical policlinic, with a medical staff counting 4 doctors and 12 specialists-graduates of medical schools (medical nurses, lab assistants etc), who provide medical services to 5475 grown-ups and 319 teenagers. Although the number of beneficiaries is imposing, the doctors often do not manage to provide quality medical services in due time. One of the major reasons is the fact that the institution still uses outdated equipment, which does not comply with minimal sanitary norms and have over-passed the exploitation term for several times, or can even be harmful for patients’ health because of technical breakdowns. Another reason is that the policlinic building is in a lamentable condition, the rooms have not been repaired for many years. All engineering networks are old and deteriorated. The rooms are irrationally used, which leads to losses of electric and thermal power”, mentioned Ilie Zabica, Coordinator of „Never Alone” project.

In order to improve the population’s access to quality medical assistance in Ciobruci village, the Regina Pacis Foundation finished the repairing of policlinic building, rebuilding all medical rooms, the activities being done within the project „Never Alone”, implemented with the support of „Support to Confidence Building Measures” program, financed by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme. In this respect, the Foundation intends further on to supply the medical institution with modern medical equipment and furniture. The project activities shall not stop at this stage. Starting with July, Regina Pacis Foundation will initiate a series of training programs for the medical staff of Ciobruci village. Specialists will learn how to use the acquired medical equipment, take work trips to two Family Doctors’ Centers on the right side of the Dniester river, enriching thus their medical knowledge.

The project „Never Alone” is implemented by Regina Pacis Foundation and aims at offering concrete and immediate steps for working out all social problems encountered by the population of Ciobruci village, Slobozia district, Transnistrian region. The general project objective is to improve the health and quality of life of children, pensioners, single old people, disabled persons, people with physical and motor deficiencies etc. from the village by training the local medical staff and providing quality social assistance, including medical one.
