2010 Global Human Development Report: Republic of Moldova on the Way of Human Development between 1970 and 2010
November 5 , 2010-- The 2010 Global Human Development Report, launched in an Anniversary edition, 20 years after the appearance of the first Report, offers the analysis of progress achieved by states within the last 40 years and ranks the Republic of Moldova as the 99th out of 169 countries according to the Human Development Index which summarizes prospects of a long and healthy life, education state and standards of a decent life. The Human Development Report, published this year with the title: „The Real Wealth of Nations: Pathways to Human Development” illustrates spectacular progress achieved within the last four decades by majority of the countries during the development in the filed of health, education, life standards and introduces new poverty, gender dimension and inequality indexes in order to render a more comprehensible image of human development. „The Report shows that people today are healthier, wealthier and better educated than before”, stated Helen Clark, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), on the occasion of the launch of the Global Human Development Report who also paid her first ever visit to the Republic of Moldova on September 9 and 10, 2010 . „Although not all trends are positive, there are many things which the world countries can do in order to improve people’s life, even in adverse conditions. Therefore, there is a need for a courageous administration at the local level, as well as a continuous commitment of the International community”, said Helen Clark. Looking beyond 2010, the Global Report surveys critical aspects of human development, from political freedoms and empowerment to sustainability and human security, and outlines a broader agenda for research and policies to respond to these challenges. „The 2010 GHDR report reaffirms the basic concept of human development as the expansion of people’s freedoms to live long, healthy and creative lives; to advance other goals they have reason to value; and to engage actively in shaping development equitably and sustainably on a shared planet. People are both the beneficiaries and drivers of human development, as individuals and in groups”, said Matilda Dimovska, Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Moldova. According to 2010 Global Human Development Report, Moldova Human Development Index is 0.623 and it belongs to the group of countries with medium human development. It ranks 99th out of 169 countries and territories for which calculations have been made.
