The EU High Level Policy Advice Mission to the Republic of Moldova was the first item on the regular monthly meeting of the Committee for EU Integration Agenda

May 5 , 2010-- The Prime Minister of Moldova, Vladimir Filat, chaired a regular monthly meeting of the Committee for EU Integration. The EU High Level Policy Advice Mission to the Republic of Moldova was the first item on the Agenda. The Prime Minister wanted to find out the beneficiaries' opinions as regards the initial cooperation the EUHLP advisory group that commenced in March 2010.

The overall feedback was very positive with the beneficiary ministries and agencies giving a positive assessment. This included the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy, Valeriu Lazar, and the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Valeriu Cosarciuc who has identified, together with the EU adviser, the priorities which require a more specialist advice.

Several other ministers spoke also on this subject. They said that they would like to have EU advisers too.

The Prime Minister urged the beneficiaries of this project to give all the necessary assistance to the EU advisers so that they could take full advantage of the expertise offered by them.

Vladimir Filat said that he will discuss with the foreign partners the possibility of extending this project so that other institutions could have EU advisers.

The EU High Level Policy Advice Mission to the Republic of Moldova consists of 9 international experts who will advise the management of public institutions in carrying out the democratic reforms and acceleration of association and further economic integration between EU and Moldova. The mission is the response of the European Union to the request of the Government of Moldova.

The policy advice mandate for the group implies a horizontal reach that covers all key sectors and, especially those that related to the EU Association Process and incorporates all government. The EU High Level Advisory Group presently has experts at the following institutions: the Prime Minister’s Office, State Chancellery, the Ministries of Economy, Finance, Justice, Interior, Agriculture and Food Industry, Tax Inspectorate and Public Procurement Agency and the experts are increasingly engaged in over-arching sectoral areas such as Justice and Home Affairs and issues related to Macroeconomic Stabilisation and Internal Market. The Chief Advisor and Team Leader, Mr Rupinder Singh welcomed the Government’s commitment to continuing policy dialogue and confirmed that the group of advisors will complete their initial needs assessment in the coming weeks.
The project is funded by the European Union and co-funded and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme.
