European Union and UNDP Moldova has brought Drinking Water in Nezavertailovca Village

23 November 2010, Chisinau--The schools, kindergartens and 54.2% of the inhabitants of Nezavertailovca village, Slobozia district, Transnistrian Region, since today have unlimited access to high quality drinking water.

The NGO „Renaşterea”, Talmaza village, Ştefan-Vodă district, in partnership with local authorities and local association „Akvavita” from Nezavertailovka and with support of the programme “Support to Confidence Building Measures”, funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme, have managed in less than one year to repair water and sewage systems from Nezavertailovca, providing drinking water for more than half of the villagers.

From the project resources, it was repaired the aqueduct and sewer system in two local schools and kindergartens, being also renovated cafeterias, kitchens and bathrooms in the schools. Today, 476 pupils and 66 children under school age from Nezavertailovca have permanent access to drinking water and use modern toilets and washstands with warm water, reducing in such way significantly the degree of illness of children with infectious diseases.

The NGO „Renaşterea” in partnership with public authorities and local NGOs have also renovated five water towers in the village, installing an aqueduct with a length of 7 km on seven streets in Nezavertailovca. Proper functioning of the wells allows to provide to the population with drinking water, during 24 hours being extracted 12,600 cubic meters of water. As a result, the number of water consumers increased twice, while the volume of water provided to population tripled.

"We've repaired the sewage pumping station and a segment of the sewer system was connected to the collector of Dnestrovsk. In carrying out construction works have been actively involved the villagers of Nezavertailovca, 70 persons being temporarily employed. I fully believe that we have achieved the project’s objectives. The next step is to ensure all inhabitants of the village with drinking water", said Nicholas Grossman, the president of NGO “Renasterea".

The project “Reparation of water and sewer systems in Nezavertailovca village, Slobozia district" was implemented during eight months by the NGO "Renastarea" in partnership with local authorities and local NGO “Akvavita”. The project goal was to provide circa 50% of the inhabitants of Nezavertailovca village with high quality drinking water, to increase the awareness of the villagers on the need to store and rational use of natural resources, including drinking water, and to develop civil society capacity to solve concrete problems in partnership with local authorities and NGOs from other regions.

The project “Support to Confidence Building Measures” aims to address the needs of Transnistrian communities including the security zone by increasing their access to basic social and economic services, as well as to objective and diversified sources of information. The establishment of cross-river partnerships will be supported, creating parallel opportunities for stakeholders from both sides to interact, thereby promoting economic cooperation and contributing towards confidence building among the actors and the population at large.
