European Union and UNDP Moldova support the development of small and medium-sized enterprises in Transnistrian Region

25 October 2010, Chişinau – On October 22, in Bender was opened the branch of the Business School of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry from transnistrian region and was launched the training course “The basis of own business”. The institution will offer to the managers of small and medium-sized enterprises training courses on establishment and development of business, accounting and juridical assistance, support for fiscal administration etc.

The Business School was opened with assistance of the project “Support to Confidence Building Measures”, funded by the European Union. and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme. The project for creation of the Business School is implemented in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry from transnistrian region and is part of a network of 3 business schools – in Bender, Tiraspol and Râbniţa. For opening of the business school in Bender, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry have bought from its own financial resources a building in Bender, which, from the project resources, was repaired and endowed with necessary equipment for training businessmen. In the same day, in Bender and Tiraspol was launched the training course “The basis of own business” for beginner businessmen.

The Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Moldova, Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, said that the EU attaches great importance to promote fruitful dialogue and cooperation between Moldovan and Transnistrian authorities. The EU is therefore involved on the political stage, but also at a technical level with very concrete initiatives such as the opening today of a Business school in Bender. „Business education is indeed central to promote exchanges but also to build the future. This is why for instance I seize every opportunity to provide my European colleagues with investments opportunities that are brought to my knowledge in Moldova in general and in Transnistria in particular. Allow me also to remind you that the EU and Moldova will soon start negotiations on a Deep and Comprehensive Business Free Trade Agreement which are of direct benefit to both banks of the Nistru. In addition to the increased financial support provided to the country, the European Union has launched two confidence building measures' packages and intends to pursue its efforts in the coming year, building on previous successes, for instance as regard business development, infrastructures, social projects etc. There are indeed many opportunities for cooperation and the EU stands ready to support them, confident in our Moldovan and Transnistrian partners' good will and sense of ownership”, mentioned Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, who then had the opportunity to exchange with the school attendees.

The Business School in Bender and in Tiraspol will train the businessmen who already have their own business, but intend to extend it, but also the businessmen who have business ideas, but do not know how to implement them. The special assistance will be offered to the managers of the big enterprises from transnistrian region, especially in management of risks in conditions of global economic crisis. 

The participants for the trainings will be selected based on an open contest, and the training cycle will last four months. The beneficiaries will learn how to access the financing from abroad, how to register and launch the businesses etc. The participants will also receive accounting and juridical assistance, support for fiscal administration etc. After graduation of the course, the authors of the most innovative and feasible business ideas will be supported to implement their ideas. 

The chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry from Transnistria, Vasilii Cojan, said that in transnistrian region is for the first time implemented a training project for businessmen. “The purpose of the project implemented by the Chamber is development of training programmes in business through the business schools in Tiraspol, Bender and Râbniţa. In total, in the framework of the project will be trained circa 500 businessmen. We want to offer to the managers of enterprises the necessary knowledge and skills for successful development of their business”, mentioned Vasilii Cojan.

Previously, the Business School in Tiraspol was endowed with necessary office equipment, while for the Business School in Rabnita were rented new offices. Today, thanks to the support of European Union and UNDP Moldova, the business schools from transnistrian region can offer quality and modern training courses for beginner and experienced businessmen. The development of the network of business schools in transnistrian region will offer the possibility to participate at the training course to both businessmen from urban and rural areas.
