Seminar “Boosting Democracy in Moldova through e-Transformation”

Chisinau, December 7, 2010.  Seminar “Boosting Democracy in Moldova through e-Transformation”.
Eight localities in Moldova have developed new initiatives to use modern technologies in everyday life within the UNDP Project "Building e-Governance in Moldova”. The results were presented at the Seminar “Boosting Democracy in Moldova through e-Transformation”.
The goal was to improve access of citizens and business community to information and decision making through electronic means, boost local initiatives using information and communication technologies (ICTs) and promoting best practices at local levels for the replication of these actions across the country.  This initiative was undertaken in localities Larga, Razeni, Calarasi, Drochia, Dubasari, Ungheni, Vadul Rascov and Comrat throughout the country.
As a result of these activities, men and women in localities mentioned above may benefit from higher quality public services, can get useful information to open a business or find employment and participate more actively in public life. This program contributed to the efficient activity of civil servants in local government at level 1 and 2 in particular related to the decision making process in the districts and villages of Moldova.
Silvia Caldare, Drochia District Council representative, that was offered support from UNDP Moldova, stressed that the project has organized the on-line work in ten mayoralties in the district. But the grounds built by this project allow effortless expansion of this mechanism in other localities of the district at no additional cost. Participants at the event organized by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies, e-Government Center and UNDP Moldova have proposed to continue and support these initiatives.
