Ensuring visibility of NGOs in human rights through communication

Chişinău, 17 September 2009 – During the following 3 months, till December 2009, local NGOs working in the field of human rights, and especially those who will have ongoing projects during this time period will receive information, consultancy and advice to make their activities more visible in the framework of the project "Ensuring visibility of NGOs in human rights through communication.” The project is implemented by the Association of Specialists in Public Relations and Communication (ASRP) with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Republic of Moldova, the "Small Grants Program to support democratic initiatives" and in partnership with the United Nations Development Program in Moldova.

Often, projects related to promoting and protecting human rights, which are implemented at local level don’t reach their purpose, remain invisible to the social actors from the locality and, primarily, for their direct beneficiaries. And this happens in absence of a person responsible of Public Relations within the organization, insufficient resources for promotion, limited access to information related to low-cost and effective methods of communication, vague perception of the phenomenon of communication and good results of the act of communication for the organization etc.

"Communication on human rights is one of the priorities of the United Nations Development Program, thus we consider very important our cooperation with social actors involved in this process, including local NGOs" said Ludmila Tiganu, Communication Specialist, UNDP Moldova.

"Through the project" Ensuring visibility of NGOs in human rights through communication, we intend to contribute to the visibility of the activity of local NGOs working in the field of human rights because these entities are ones of the most important promoters of democratic values. About their activities must be known, their work must be visible, to involve beneficiaries, so that finally, the act of promoting and protecting human rights to take place ", stated Buzulan Ludmila, Project Coordinator, ASRP.

During two planned workshops, the representatives of 15 local NGOs specialized in human rights will gain practical skills to promote human rights related projects, will create and implement the concept and even a communication campaign for one of the active projects of the organization. For the two most successful campaigns will be offered cash prizes that will be used for field implementation of these communication campaigns. And the experience gained in the implementation process of communication campaigns will be transposed in the pages of a communication guide for NGOs in human rights.
