The Global Compact Network Moldova launched a national campaign on environment protection
Volunteer teams composed of employees and managers of Bioprotect, Endava, Foto Rapid, Linella, Millenium Grup, Mobiasbanca, Moldcell, Moldova Agroindbank, Rompetrol, Translogistic, Total Leasing, Union Fenosa, Business and Parliament Association of Moldova, and UN agencies in Moldova removed waste from the area and installed information plates reminding visitors of the need and importance of environmental protection. This corporate volunteer action, implemented by GCNM member companies, launched a national environmental protection campaign comprising a number of actions that promote pro-ecological attitudes. Such initiatives are highly popular in European business environments. We will continue promoting the implication of private sector within activities aimed to improve the life quality of Moldovan people, said Ms. Nadja Vetters, responsible for Environment and Energy within United Nations Development Programme in Moldova. By launching and implementing the Ecological Office Code GO GREEN within GCNM member companies and organizations, representatives of Moldovan civil society and business environment undertake the responsibility to join the efforts for environmental protection and to become a model in enhancing social and environmental performance. By applying the main requirements of the Code, companies will promote a pro-ecological corporate culture, also among their employees and undertake to apply 3-R Principles: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, mentioned Ms. Rodica Verbeniuc, member of the GCNM Coordination Board. Will disseminate the initiative among partners, competitors and other parties, and will report progress achieved in environmental protection in their annual report added Ms. Verbeniuc. The Global Compact is the largest global initiative of corporate social responsibility, launched in 2000 by former Secretary General of United Nations, Kofi Annan. Currently, Global Compacts has more than 6000 members from more than 133 countries of the world. The UN Global Compact was introduced in Moldova through an official national launch in November 2006 and comprises today 50 members. The Global Compact is promoting the concept of corporate social responsibility and the creation of efficient partnerships between private companies and other social actors that contribute to a sustainable and socially equitable economic growth.
