Global Compact Network Moldova organized the second edition of "Green Day" action within the national campaign "Go Green"
Volunteer teams composed of employees and managers of Bioprotect, FotoRapid, BC Mobiasbanca- Groupe Societe Generale, Moldcell, BC Moldova- Agroinbank, BC EuroCreditBank, Red Union Fenosa, Floare Carpet, CEO-Grup, Mentor Grup, Leogrand Hotel & Convention Center, Total Leasing, and UN agency UNFPA in Moldova removed waste from the area. Mr. Eugeniu Josan, President of the 2009 GCNM Coordination Board, Deputy Manager of the Legal Department of the commercial bank Moldova-Agroindbank SA announced the official start of works after having thanked all the participants for coming to make a personal contribution to the achievement of a noble objective. Their participation marked high social responsibility, both personal and corporate, which contributes to the promotion of social partnerships among businesses. "Besides our professional activity and the place where we work, it is very important to have a positive attitude and to get involved directly in solving current problems. Representatives of UN agencies participated in all editions of the "Green Day" action because we care about the environmental situation around us. We want to enjoy a cleaner city and a social responsibility of people towards the environment" said Boris Gilca, Program Coordinator, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) The National Campaign "Go Green" was launched on May 16, currently and comprises by today the development and implementation of the Code "Go Green Office" and two editions of the activity "Green Day". By participating in the Go Green initiatives GCNM member companies and organizations, representatives of Moldovan civil society and business environment undertake the responsibility to join the efforts for environmental protection and to become a model in enhancing social and environmental performance. Global Compact is the largest global initiative for corporate social responsibility, launched in 2000 by the former Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan. Currently it counts over 6,000 participants from over 133 countries around the world. The Moldovan network, which includes 56 member companies, announced its accession to the Global Compact (GC) late in 2006. The Global Compact promotes corporate social responsibility and establishment of efficient partnerships between private companies and other social actors, to achieve a sustainable and socially equitable economic growth.
