The initiative was realized with the support of the UNO office in Moldova and the Green Areas Management Association from Chisinau municipality.
For three hours, volunteer teams were planting lindens, painting benches, raking loans and picking up leaves, digging tree beds and sweeping alleys. The participants in the event, employees led by the management of such companies as Arhiconi-Grup, Bioprotect, Endava, Foto Rapid, Microinvest, Millenium Grup, Mobiasbanca, Moldcell, Moldova Agroindbank, Rompetrol, Union Fenosa, as well as UNO agencies in Moldova have displayed their abnegation and team spirit, stating that the initiative, besides being one of the most interesting teambuilding activities, caused them great moral satisfaction.

Their gestures denotes a high feeling of personal and corporate social responsibility. At the same time, it is a gesture of a good citizen and patriot who cares about what kind of alleys we walk along, what kind of playgrounds our children play and run about, and what kind of nature delights our eyes and inebriates us with fragrance…”
The public utility initiative “Green Day” represents a replicable example of social partnership, through which Moldovan companies, by taking a real action, have decided to manifest their attitude and responsibility for the environmental protection. The initiatives displays the maturity of the local businesses in unifying their efforts for achieving a noble purpose, their ability to get together and jointly implement projects promoting actual global values, such as environmental protection.
The event was launched by a greeting speech delivered by Mrs. Kaarina Immonen, UNO resident coordinator, resident representative of UNDP in Chisinau, who mentioned the following: “Although we live in a world where people are still separated by vast differences in well-being, opportunities and national frontiers, our destinies are united by a single thing we have in common: the planet Earth. Today’s common initiative of the GCNM and UNO agencies demonstrate that such actions can contribute to the improvement both of the natural environment and the social one the community leaves in.”
“Green Day” is the first step within the GCNM action plan for the year 2008. On April 15, the network members will draw the conclusions of the national business plan contest for the young, BPC 2008, conducted by ANTiM (NAYoM – the National Agency of Young Managers of Moldova). This year, the GC network in Moldova offered a special prize for the best business plan that respects and promotes CSR (corporate social responsibility) values. And the initiatives will not end here, Mrs. Rodica Verbeniuc told us: “I believe it’s time that each company and each citizen in part realize that the end doesn’t justify the means… Natural resources are not unlimited, human resources should be respected and valued, children should be protected and educated harmoniously, and corruption is one of the greatest obstacles on our way towards an educated, civilized and prosperous society. If we manage to promote the good practices of Global Compact, we will surely become a country respecting democratic freedoms, which is attractive to investors, respected and loved by our citizens.”
The event organizers would like to express there sincere gratitude to:
- Head of Botanica branch of Green Areas Management Association, Mrs. Iulia Zamuleanschi, and the group of workers who coordinated the process;
- mass media representatives for their promptness in elucidating and promoting the models of good practices and partnerships between various social figures.
