The social advertising week continues with a debate on CSR in the Republic of Moldova initiated by UNDP

The United Nations Development Programme Moldova (UNDP) and Global Compact Moldova in collaboration with the Association of Specialists in Public Relations and Communication (ASRP) will organize on Friday, June 13th, 2008, a workshop for editors of media institutions to approach the issue of supporting the campaigns for corporate social responsibility (Corporate Social Responsibility - CSR) and their mediatization.

The event will have a special guest – the well-known Romanian journalist, Cosmin Pacuraru, trainer at the Center for Independent Journalism in Bucharest, Romania. Mr. Cosmin Pacuraru will share the experience of journalists from Romania and other neighboring states on issues of CSR programs mediatization and the advantages for a media institution of assuming a social position regarding this kind of action.

The workshop will consist of 2 sessions: the first session will analyze the local and international situation in media institutions’ social involvement, such as the identification of the frontier between Public Relations, Advertising and CSR; the second session will focus on debates and presentation of recommendations for increasing the efficiency of the mass media - companies partnership in support of CSR actions in Moldova.

„The social responsibility becomes a more common subject of discussions, either when we are speaking about private sector, organizations or mass media. Nevertheless, I consider that mass media is one of the few entities having a special role in promoting and support of these initiatives. On the one hand, media has the important mission to inform and educate about issues that affect us all. On the other hand, media is also a business and consequently has the same responsibilities as every organization, declared Mr. Ignacio Artaza, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Moldova.

The event is part of a series of actions planned by the UN Global Compact, in order to promote the Corporate Social Responsibility in the Republic of Moldova. The Global Compact proposes to go on with this idea through organizing different activities, such as the national conference on CSR, the development of a study elucidating the concept of “social message” and participation at different round tables and debates that promote the CSR concept.

The Global Compact is the world’s largest social corporate responsibility initiative, launched in 2000 by former UN Secretary General, Kofi A. Annan. So far, the initiative has over 5000 participants from more than 120 countries. The Moldovan network announced about its membership at the end of 2006 and presently has 30 member companies. The Global Compact promotes corporate social responsibility and the creation of efficient partnerships between private companies and other social agents for a sustainable and socially equitable economic growth.
