April 24, 2007, Chisinau – The Workshop on: “Advancing e-Government Solutions for Friendly, Efficient and Secure Public Service” started its works today at the Republican Palace under the aegis of the Ministry of Information Development with the support of the United Nations Development Program. The workshop will take place in the framework of the International IT Conference BIT + 2007
During the workshop the speakers will present reports on the implementation of the National Strategy „Electronic Moldova” and the Concept of Electronic Governance, elaborated with the support of UNDP Moldova, projects and practical solutions for implementing IT technologies in the activity of the public central and local administration and a report regarding the evolution of e-readiness in Moldova during the last 2-3 years.
Yuri Misnikov, expert in electronic governance, Regional UNDP Centre from Bratislava, will speak about the best international practices in delivering electronic service by public authorities, followed by discussions and debates regarding the development of electronic governance in Moldova. Another expert, Sunil Abraham, Asia-Pacific Development Information Programme APDIP, Bangkok will present the best international practices in implementing open source software versus licensed industrial platforms used in electronic governance systems and will suggest solutions for Moldova.
On April 23, 2007 Vladimir Voronin, the President of the Republic of Moldova has officialy launched the IT Week. The IT Week in Moldova will take place from April 23 to April 30.
In his opening speech President Voronin has mentioned that „the essence of all the events to be held during this week consists in the fact that the State shall acquire a new order from the society regarding the importance of this branch in the country’s economy. It is essential to pay more attention to the digital signature mechanisms and development of electronice services, i tis necessary to develop a economic infrastructre that will contribute to raising the number of citizens using infomation resource in everyday life.”
During the opening ceremony of the IT Week Ignacio Artaza, UNDP Resident Representative a.i. in Moldova, has mentioned that „UNDP has taken up pioneer actions in Information Technologies during the initial phases. In Moldova, UNDP has assisted the Government in promoting and integrating information technologies benefits in the development of the country policies and strategies. Implementing the National Strategy on Building an Information Society, elaborated with the assistance of UNDP will contribute at poverty eradication by raising economic competitiveness and work output in Moldova. This IT week (including the BIT+ Conference 2007) represents another extraordinary example of geting national partners, international partners and donors together, in order to share experience, discuss important problems regarding electronic governance and identify efficient solutions for Moldova, based on the knowledge of the international experts.
