Other Companies Have Joined The Global Compact Local Network In Moldova

December 11, 2007, Chişinău – Membership certificates were handed to 13 new members of the Global Compact Local Network during the annual meeting, which was organized on the occasion of the first year of activity of the Local Network.

Among the new companies that have joined the Global Compact are: ASITO, Carahasani-Vin, Microinvest, Foto Rapid, Glass Container Company, LeoGrant Ltd, International Association Business& Parlament Moldova, Mobiasbanca Groupe Societe Generale, KPMG Moldova, Gabiny Ltd, BC EuroCreditBank, Total Leasing, and Lafarge Ciment Moldova.

By signing the Global Compact the companies committed to making the ten Global Compact principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, part of business strategy and operations. The Global Compact is an initiative of the UN Secretary General, which main objective is to promote Corporate Social Responsibility and foster efficient partnerships between private companies and other social actors to achieve a sustainable and fair economic growth.

“We hope that Corporate Social Responsibility will guide companies in the way they do their business so that their attitude and activities benefit the entire society”, mentioned Kaarina Immonen, UN Resident Coordinator in Moldova, during the meeting.

The Global Compact Local Network was created on November 28, 2006 when 14 companies joined the Global Compact. At the moment, the Global Compact Local Network in Moldova has 29 members.

During the first year of activity, the Local Network has provided a valuable platform for communication between the member-companies of the Global Compact network in Moldova and for the organization of various training activities within the Network. Trainings and workshops were organized and materials related to work standards were published, among many others.

During the meeting, the Coordinating Board of the Network was elected, the action plan for 2008 was discussed as well as suggestions were made for common projects of the Global Compact Moldova.
