Moldovan Government launched a public awareness campaign on MDGs

3 October 2006 – Today Vasile Tarlev, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova officially launched the public awareness campaign on MDGs in Moldova.

The MDGs campaign which takes place under the aegis of the Government of Moldova is aimed at raising public’s awareness about the importance of social involvement of each citizen of Moldova in the achievement of the development goals.
At the event the TV and radio spots were launched which will be aired on the most important TV channels and radio stations in Moldova during October 3 – December 15.

Apart from the video and radio spots, the MDGs campaign included billboards, media trainings, workshops and debates. These will be launched in the next stage of the campaign, during the month of October.
All communications materials of the MDGs campaign have been developed with the support of the United Nations in Moldova which provides technical assistance to the Government in implementing and monitoring the Millennium Development Goals in Moldova.

In 2000 the Republic of Moldova signed together with 189 UN member-states the UN Millennium Declaration. This document expresses the commitment of the international community to the fundamental values of the mankind and underlines the importance of resolving issues pertaining to peace, human rights protection, achieving sustainable development and environment protection.

Each country has set concrete targets and indicators to monitor the achievement of MDGs. The Republic of Moldova has adapted the goals, targets and indicators to its priorities and context.

The 8 development goals of Moldova are: eradicate extreme poverty and hunger; ensure access to gymnasium education; promote gender equality and women empowerment; reduce child mortality; improve maternal health; fight HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis; ensure a sustainable environment; create a  global partnership for development.
