Background

Under the guidance and supervision of the Security Associate, direct supervisor, and Operations Manager, secondary supervisor, the Security Guard provides reliable security services ensuring protection of UN House personnel and premises. The Security Guard demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Controls admissions of authorized personnel and movements of United Nations property into and out of the premises.
  • Access control functions:
  1. Controls entry of employees, requesting identification from those not known or recognized;
  2. Receives and controls visitors;\
  3. Enter their names in register and informs by telephone the office or person to be seen;
  4. Visitor is either escorted or, in some cases, instructed how to reach the appropriate office;
  5. Receives notification calls when visitors leave offices and registers time of their departure from the building;
  6. Ensures that all visitors depart in timely manner, after notification of visit termination;
  7. Packages and briefcases must be opened and inspected on entry of all non-employees;
  • When assigned at the UN House pedestrian entrance (LGF Post 1), the guard controls the entry of UN House employees, day laborers, and visitors, ensuring no contraband or unauthorized items are brought onto the UN House compound. The incumbent maintains a log of visitors and monitors closed-circuit video cameras (CCTV) for potential problems.  Incumbent also issues and keeps track of visitor badges and keys to the UN House unrestricted areas, ensuring both are returned in a timely manner.  After hours the incumbent will occasionally transfer calls to appropriate mission personnel. This post operates 24 hours a day.
  • When assigned to the vehicle screening area, the guard will thoroughly inspect each incoming vehicle, opening the gate only for vehicles authorized compound access. Guards will randomly conduct explosives tests of vehicles. This post operates 24 hours a day.
  • Awareness about the information systems used for tracking persons and vehicles, which are traveling out of security control area, and travel approval given the security situation in the area
  • Patrols and maintains security of the office premises and grounds, including overnight guard duties, and reports any irregularities.
  • Responds to emergencies affecting the safety of the personnel and premises according to the authorized emergency procures and notifies supervisor.
  • Controls all material entering or leaving the building requiring that property passes be presented for items removed.
  • Checks that all office machines, air conditioners, lights, etc., are turned off after working hours.
  • Helps in the preparation and review of the UN Security Plan.
  • Provides support to the Security Associate in monitoring compliance with Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) established for the duty station. 
  • Provide support to the Security Associate in collection of information for reporting and incidents’ investigation.
  • Acts as the alternate of the Security Associate in his/her absence.
  • Coordinates all zone wardens and monitors in case of emergency, natural disasters, war, natural and social disasters
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Secondary education. University Degree in relevant area is an asset.

Experience:

  • 5 years of experience in providing security services
  • Experience with an international organization or embassy is an asset.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in Romanian and Russian.
  • Working knowledge of English is preferable.
