Consultant – Business Partnership Portfolio Development

Background:

The regional project Fostering Multi-stakeholder partnerships to achieve MDGs in Western CIS and Caucasus in the framework of UN Global Compact has been implemented by UNDP since April 2006 and funded by the Government of Belgium. The overall goal of the Project is to accelerate sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction. This would be achieved through promoting Corporate Responsibility (CR) and the UN Global Compact (GC) as well as through the facilitation of the linkages/partnership projects between business (foreign or local) and public sector - government, business support organizations, civil society, donors and UN agencies.

UNDP will recruit a consultant to assist with the development of the partnership project portfolio in the priority sectors.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Identify at least 3 ideas/leads for business partnership projects in the priority sectors;
  • Review and get familiar with the existing materials and studies concerning the priority sectors, the main features of the business environment in Moldova;
  • Hold the scoping meetings with the key actors and stakeholders with a view to identify their interests, priorities, present our project and approach, and to identify partnership projects/ideas; where possible start initial negotiations;
  • Formulate the ideas/leads for partnership  projects.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Sound understanding of economic and business development situation in Eastern Europe and the CIS;
  • A good understanding of the inclusive business models and how business can contribute to development through their core business practices;
  • Graduate degree in business, economics, international development or international relations;
  • Minimum 3-5 years relevant business, government or international development experience preferably gained in Eastern Europe, the CIS or other emerging markets;
  • Distinctive experience in working in the private sector on issues of business strategy, operations or new business development;
  • Previous working experience in Moldova, and knowledge of the local business environment (Should this be an asset rather than requirement? We may eliminate many interesting candidates if we have it as a requirement;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required, Russian is an advantage.
