Security Guards

Organizational context:
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Security Guard and the Operations Manager, the Security Guard provides reliable security services ensuring protection of UN House personnel and premises.  The Security Guard demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Summary of key functions:

  • Controls admissions of authorized personnel and movements of United Nations property into and out of the premises;
  • Receives and controls visitors; Ensures that all visitors are escorted by the person whom they come to see, both on their way in and out;
  • Operates such security equipment as metal detector, scanner, etc;
  • Packages and briefcases must be opened and inspected on entry of all non-employees;
  • Controls access of persons delivering goods or performing services in the building;
  • Within the vehicle screening area, the guard thoroughly inspects each incoming vehicle, opening the gate only for vehicles authorized compound access.
  • Patrols and maintains security of the office premises and grounds, including overnight guard duties, and reports any irregularities; Checks that all office machines, air conditioners, lights, etc., are turned off after working hours;
  • Proactively deals with / responds to emergencies affecting the safety of the personnel and premises according to the authorized emergency procedures and notifies supervisor;
  • Controls all material entering or leaving the building requiring that property passes be presented for items removed;

Requirements for applicants:
Education:              Secondary Education.
Experience:             1 year work experience in a similar position in which trustworthiness and sound and quick judgment have been demonstrated. 

References required.


Language Requirements:         Fluency in Romanian and Russian.  Knowledge of English would be an advantage.
