Livestock specialist - “Drought Response” Project
Background:
The Relief and Technical Assistance Response Project to the Drought Crisis in Moldova proposal is designed to address primarily the emergency needs created by the severe drought affecting the country during the summer of 2007 and builds on the findings of the joint UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Food Programme assessments undertaken during July and August 2007. It considers the difficult situation that many farmers as well as socially vulnerable groups are facing and aims to mitigate the harsh effects from a poverty alleviation viewpoint.
Consultancy Objectives
To assist the UN agriculture technical team in organizing the animal feed distribution campaign to farmers affected by the drought.
Summary of key functions:
- Assist in establishing a time-phased work plan and a calendar of activities covering the whole duration of the project;
- Assist in the verification of project areas and finalization of beneficiary selection in accordance with criteria and procedures described in the project document;
- Assist in identification and monitoring of the animal feed to be procured, their technical specifications and potential local sources and suppliers;
- Assist in establishing a step-by-step timeframe for procurement, inspection, selection criteria of beneficiaries and distribution of feed to the beneficiaries;
- Keep regular communication with Government authorities at the central and local levels in relation to the implementation of the project;
- Assist in establishing a supervision mechanism for distribution of feed to beneficiaries;
- Prepare and submit detailed report of the mission on activities undertaken and provide recommendations for the smooth implementation of the project;
- Perform all duties judged necessary for the successful implementation of the project
Qualifications and skills required:
- University degree in animal science
- At least 3 to 5 years of professional experience in the livestock area
- Analytical skills and report drafting;
- Good communication skills.
