Description:

This project aims to enhance the capacity of
government border services within the existing organizational framework in
order to make effective the border control and improve the border management
system. Through equipment and infrastructure as well as technical assistance,
the project’s main endeavour is to contribute to the reduction of illegal
migration and drug trafficking from and through Moldova
towards EU member states.

Objectives
pursued:

§
Equip
five joint control border crossing points – Criva-Mamaliga,
Medveja-Zelionaia, Larga-Kelmenti, Briceni-Rososeni and Giurgiulesti-Reni - and
better infrastructure and training along the border area will be provided in
the framework of the implementation of the joint control operations by the
Moldovan and Ukrainian authorities;
§
Improve
the national capacities in the area of border management through research and
training activities using local and international expertise;
§
Overall
improvement of control capacity and efficiency of border services.

Awareness
of governmental institutions involved in border control services about
relevant EU standards raised;

Co-ordination
between governmental institutions as well as donors strengthened;

Regional
co-operation in the area of border management strengthened.

Public
awareness:
|
·
The
project will conduct intensive public awareness activities to promote the
importance of the border services and the role of the European Union and the
UN in combating illegal migration and drug trafficking through Moldova towards EU;
·
The
Border Guards Service web-site will be updated to correspond to the recent
developments in the area;
·
Publications
and information materials will be produced and widely disseminated; a TV spot
will be produced and broadcast;
·
Media
trainings in the area of border management and role of various services and
agencies will be organized.

Budget:

The
total project budget is Euro 1,942,500 funded by European Union including Euro
92,500 provided by UNDP.

Noteworthy:
|
This
project will help Moldova reach a satisfactory border control management level
