E.U. OFFERS EQUIPMENT WORTH OVER 32 MILLION LEI TO MOLDOVAN BORDER GUARD SERVICE
|
Chisinau - 21.10.2005 - The European Union (E.U.) has offered an equipment for operative checking of documents worth 32.2 million lei (2.57 million dollars) to the Moldovan Border Guard Service within the Strengthening of Border Control Management Project.
The cache comprises devices for checking of authenticity of documents, money, mobile mini-computers for operative reading of data from passport, BASA has learned from officials in charge with implementation of this project.
They said that the mini-computers represent small-computerised portable stations, which will be used in trains to reduce the time needed for checking of passports. Border guards say that the time for checking of a document will be reduced from 3-5 minutes down to one minute when the new technology will be implemented.
The equipment will be distributed to the Chisinau International Airport, regional directorates Nord-Vest and Sud-Est of the Border Guard Service, and railway stations in Valcinet and Otaci.
The European Union and United Nations Development Programme in Moldova launched the Strengthening of Border Control Management Project early this year. The key objective of this project is to essentially reduce the illegal migration and trafficking in drugs to/and through Moldova to E.U. member states, as well as to inure governmental structures participating in border control service to E.U. standards.
