United Nations in Moldova

The UN Country Team includes UNDP, UNICEF, UNHCR, UNFPA, the Liaison Officer of WHO, the National Commission for UNESCO, ILO, WB and IMF, UNAIDS, IOM, UNIFEM. The main strategies for inter-agency cooperation include the UN system-wide advocacy, information sharing and joint PI work, joint and coordinated programming and maintenance of common services.

In Moldova, UNDP's Resident Representative (RR) also serves as the Resident Coordinator (RC) for the United Nations system in the country. As the designated representative of the Secretary-General and team leader of United Nations System Agencies, the Resident Coordinator assumes the overall responsibility for, and the coordination of the operational activities for the development of the UN System at the country level.

The Resident Coordinator system encompasses all organizations of the United Nations system dealing with development, regardless of their formal presence in the country, and is funded and managed by UNDP.

Apart from supporting the Resident Coordinator system, the UNDP country office in Moldova represents some other UN agencies without a formal presence in the country. In addition, it provides central administrative support to a number of UN agencies with limited presence.

Moreover, UNDP also has a role in overall development coordination. The UN RC/UNDP RR is chairing the Donors' Task Force on Aid Coordination and supports the government, as well as the donor community, to share information and coordinate aid efforts.

UNDP in Moldova seeks to achieve greater unity of purpose and coherence of effort together with various members of the UN family in responding to the needs of the country and its people as well as to ensure the most effective use of the UN and international aid resources.
